Sydney seems to be doing better. She did end up with another cold, which caused her sats to drop again.... so back on nebs she went. The neb treatments really seem to open her lungs up, causing her to rebound quickly. What a relief! We keep hoping for a little normalcy around here, but we are not quite there yet. Syd's heart rate is still low and her O2 sats vary based on how she is feeling (ex.a cold). I talked to Dr Falterman (cardio) just before Thanksgiving. I updated Dr F on Sydney, and also asked when the Davis' could go back "normal" (visiting friends, going to preschool, playgroups, family gatherings, and me watching kids). Sydney wants some "normal" (can you blame her). She has also been asking about "her school" and when she can go. Well, Dr F answered all of my questions, but the answers were not all I had hoped for. During the holidays, we can visit with family, but we have to confirm their health status before walking out the door. Dr F said we still have to be very careful. Sydney having the H1N1 and the fluid issues, post hospital discharge, really hindered her recovery process. Syd's body needs more time after all of the things that were thrown at her all at once. Sydney is doing great, but we still have a lot of ground to cover. She needs to get back into normal sinus rhythm, sats need to stay up, and she needs to stay well for these things to happen. So the plan is....no pre-school. UGH!! Sydney is NOT going to like this!! She wants to go so badly, and I want this for her too. The Dr said absolutely not. She will let Syd play with a few friends, as long as they are OCD like me about sickness. I can watch kids again once school starts back in Jan 2010, but with a VERY strict sickness policy. Dr F plans to halter monitor Sydney on Dec 17 at her next Cardiologist appointment. This will look at what her heart is doing in a 24 hour period of time. We hope to find her heart in rhythm, so we do not need to discuss pacemaker placement. Lastly, in April, Sydney most likely will have her fenestration closed (hole made between her heart and her conduit, that helped the heart relieve pressure while Sydney's body gots used to the new blood flow). This closure will improve Syd's O2 sats. So as you can see, the roller coaster ride is not quite over.
Aubrey is enjoying her first year of school. She is loving being a big kindergartner. Her teacher loves her (well, who wouldn't!!), and said Aubrey is a wonderful leader. That's my girl!! She is learning a lot and is making great grades. Her first report card reflected that!! She tested above average on her PALS , and the teacher said to just keep doing what we are doing. I love watching Aubrey actively working on and practicing the things she learned at school. My baby is growing up so fast. I could not be anymore proud of her!! I bet you couldn't tell!!
I have lots of blogging "catch up", so I hope to post again soon.
Thanks as always for checking in.
