Good Day

Sydney finally slept today! It was such a relief to see her peaceful. It also meant that Stephen could get some much needed sleep as well. Sleep is always a good thing.

All good news today. Syd is completely off of her blood pressure meds (epi and norepinephrine) and her perfusion meds. Yay! We were able to get her a little more upright today and, big girl that she is, she insisted on using the bed pan instead of wetting her diaper. She even felt well enough to talk to her sister on the phone tonight. Her color today was much better. Maybe the green we saw yesterday was related to her nausea? Regardless, she kept everything down today and may be able to start on something more solid tomorrow. She is still in junctional rhythm, but Heather saw a a few P waves on her EKG, so maybe she 's trying to convert to sinus.

Sydney's lungs are still a little wet and she's producing lots of fluid through her chest tubes, but that's all very normal. The goal is to get that fluid out of her body so that her lungs can start working. The goals for tomorrow are to get her up a little bit, to get her coughing and taking deep breaths, to get rid of the fluid and to wean her oxygen. Big goals, but she's such a strong little girl, I'm confident she can do it!

lots of love,
Josie (for Christy and Steve)
