Wednesday Update

Sydney is continuing to do well. She is off ALL her medicines except the lasix to help her get rid of fluid. Wow!! Today she can start eating food if she's interested. We have a big box of Goldfish ready when she is!

There are few things that we're watching pretty carefully today. Her sats have been a little lower than we'd like, and she's still on 2.5 to 3 liters of oxygen. She is also still producing lots of fluid from her chest tubes. They split the tubes today to try and isolate which tube is drawing off the most fluid so that they know where it's coming from. It's too early to tell the reason for the continued fluid but there are some possibilities. One fear is that a lymph node may have been knicked during the procedure and that it's the source of the fluid. Please pray that this is not the case because it will ensure a longer hospital stay. The PICU is very busy today with some critical patients, so we haven't heard the results of her x-ray this morning; it could be that her lungs are still very wet and that they're the source of the fluid. We're hoping to avoid effusions, so pray that her lungs will start to clear up soon.

Sydney's arterial line failed this morning and had to be removed. Poor thing bled for a while and was not happy with having pressure applied to stop the bleeding. She's pretty tired from all that excitement, so she's napping now. When she wakes up, we're going to try and "play" with her to get her using her lungs. Thanks to Karen for providing all the goodies that Jameson liked to get Syd up and going!! I know Christy would love to be able to hold her today, so say a prayer for that as well. We'll keep you updated as we know more.

Thank for the continued prayer, it helps so much. If you would keep another family in your prayers ~ little Parker had surgery this morning to remove a tumor from his aorta. He was a typical active 3 year old a week ago when he went in to the pediatrician and the tumor was discovered. I know his family is feeling blindsided and need all the love and support they can get.

Lots of love,
Josie (for Christy & Steve)
