Post Fontan Cardio visit

Well, after a long night watching Sydney, then finally putting her in bed with us, we headed off to the cardiologist.  They checked Sydney's sats and they were 84%.  I will take it after last nights major drop.  I talked to Dr Falterman about this drop, and she was not real excited about her sats being in the low 70's and her heart rate in the 60's.  Dr F looked at Syd's heart function and it looks really good.  There is no fluid on Sydney's spleen, liver or around her heart.  This was really good news.  Her lungs are clear and the adoletisis sp? (partial lung collapse and junk in the lungs) is gone. So the lasix helped all of this, but it has gone a little too far the other way now. Dr F believes the sats will improve now that her meds have been drop a lot. Sydney is just  too "dried out" right now and we should see improvements in the next few days. Syd is so volume dependant, her sats will drop if she doesn't have enough fluid in her body.  My job is to get her to drink, drink, drink!! There was some increased leakage in Sydney mitrial valve (it is at 1).  Nothing to worry about right now.  Syd's heart and body are  getting used to her new anatomy and this takes time.  Syd is still in junctional rhythm, but surgery seems to always put her in this.  This will hopefully resolve itself.  If not, Dr F will put a halter monitor on her for 24 hours, and really look at what her heart is going.  If this doesn't resolve, then another open chest surgery will be needed to place a pacemaker.  We are not there yet.  I still have faith.   Dr F really wants to see Sydney in the mid 80's while resting (but not asleep). Dr F also said that Sydney is using the "pop off" fenestration (hole in th conduit they placed).  This will still allow some of her blood to mix, causing the sats to be lower also.  She was not sure why such a "generous" fenestration was placed being that her pressures and anatomy were so good (pressure was 4).  Her assumption is based on her history of junctional rhythm, and letting her heart not work as hard.

So we need to go tot he pediatrician on Tuesday to have blood work done, and follow up with Dr F on Nov 5th.

So, all in all, a good report.  We will just watch her close and see what happens.  Keep praying.  I believe this really helps.  We still have to be VERY careful about exposing Sydney in any germs.  Her body cannot handle healing and fighting a virus at the same time.  So, we are still on lock down.  We will find out more in Nov.

Many of you know Claire (2 yr old with TGA)--Sydney best friend and heart friend.  She had her heart appointment yesterday at D C Children's.Her appointment went great.... better then expected.  No surgical intervention needed at this time, and all will be evaluated again in 6 months.  The older she is having the next surgery, the later she will need to have the 3rd (maybe as late as 12 years old).  This was all good news. Please continue to keep then in your prayers too.
