So, I am not crazy after all....

Today has been a busy day, like most days lately.  Our plan this morning was to drop Aubrey off at a friend's house, so she could ride on bus, and then off to the pediatrician's office for Syd's lab work.  That plan quickly changed this morning.  Aubrey came to me after getting dressed, and said, "Mommy, I feel really weird.  My stomach has been hurting all night long."  Oh poor baby, I thought.  She also said her throat hurt, and yes...she had a fever.  So no school for her,  and off to the doctor's office---this time with both girls needing to be seen.

Aubrey:
To make a long story short.  She has the swine flu. She tested positive for Type A and Type B flu---swine and seasonal combined. Thank goodness, she has been immunized for both of them, so hopefully her case will not be as bad.  She had a fever of 101 this afternoon, but broke with Tylenol and a nap.  She has been instructed (poor thing), to stay in her room and play.  Thanks to so many of my friends, she has had a good time eating Rita's slushies, watched movies on a borrowed DVD player, new and different movies to watch, homework delivered, dinner provided, and for Mommy--Clorox wipes, rubbing alcohol, dinner and lots of moral support.  I love you guys!!

Sydney
Sydney was given a script for Tamiflu, but we were instructed not to use it until we see signs of the flu---the slightest of signs. Also, we need to keep Sydney and Aubrey apart until Aubrey has been on Tamiflu for 48 hours.  We would like to hope Sydney (and the rest of us) will not get this.  Sydney is the only one that has not been able to have either flu vaccinations, because of surgery. She is fragile right now, and has enough things going on with her.  Sydney has gained her pound back (now 28 pounds), and her liver continues to be down (not holding fluid). She is pale--a sickly pale.  Dr Falterman (cardio) and Dr Zachary(peds) talked over Sydney's lab work. Her potassium is up, she is hypovalemic (still to dry), iron levels ok, sats still down (at 77%).  Dr F is cutting her spirolactin in half--this should help with the dryness, and help the rise in Potassium.  Dr F asked me to give these change a few days, and watch for the O2 sats to trends up.  Dr F wants Syd's sats to be 80 or higher.  When she is sleeping -- it can be a little lower.  The doc plans to put a halter monitor on Syd at the next appointment in 9 days.  Dr F asked me to talk to Sydney about "wearing a backpack" .  She thinks Syd's heart rate should not be in the low 60's while sleeping, so the halter monitor will see what Syd's rhythms are doing over 24 hours.

So, my gut was right. We still have things to work on, but we have clear plan now.  Thanks for all of the prayers, please keep them coming.  Also, thanks for checking in.  Good night.

Love,
Christy
